Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed Drag Me to Hell
    • MUST WATCH
    Great Horror show
Its a real horror movie. It has got everything a horror movie should have. Mystery, suspense, fear, sudden pulse of heart burst, a great story and evil faces.
"A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient ofa supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.", the plot as stated by IMDB.
'Drag me too hell' is hell awesome, it scares you everytime you watch it. Lorna Ravera as Mrs. Ganush was hell great. Her acting was the limelight of the movie. This woman looked so evil that i'll prefer even not meeting her in real life. Her blood vomits, her untidy teeth and her dirty handkerchief, yuck. Her sudden coming to the scenes troubling the protagonist, Alison Lohman as Christine Brown.
Christine also looked amazing her fear, her words, her acting all looked so real. At the same time she looked pretty throughout the movie. She played an innocent banker who accidentally fells into a curse. Mrs Ghanush always warns her for her plight but she had no way to cure the curse. She meets two psychic experts, Dileep Rao as Rham Jas and Adriana Barraza as Shaun San Dena but all in vain. At the end Alison is dragged to hell following the curse and movie finishes without a happy ending.
For me it was a horror movie worth winning an Oscar. I'll give it a 4.5.

Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed The Social Network
    • MUST WATCH
    So good
Social Network is a movie based on the foundation of Social Networking giant Facebook. Based on the life of Mark Zuckerberg, Social Network is very a true story.
Movie made in bits and pieces. How Mark, the damn coder, the man with immense ability and a great vision and yes in quotes ' A Harvard Dropout'. He learns human nature, he learns business and finally becames a millionaire in his 20s.
The story of FB starts with Mark's being dumped by a girl(Erica) that too on the very first day of his first date of the college. So too take revenge he decides to make a website where he can make fun of her by making his website popular. Luckily, it gets famous and the girl Erica gets famous too. The Harvard Connection helps him making his website famous. His friends helps him to popularize it. Then the Mark decides to drop the college. He meets various business experts for help and finally gets one. This help proves to be very important. Facebook shifts its office to silicon valley and the present status of the company is before your eyes.
There's nothing in the movie not be praised of. Acting part was great. Dialogues great. Screenplay : 5 star. But for me it was a bit slow but interesting. Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg was all great. Andrew Garfield also did a very impressive job.
"The Social Network" is a great film not because of its dazzling style or visual cleverness, but because it is splendidly well-made. Despite the baffling complications of computer programming, web strategy and big finance, Aaron Sorkin's screenplay makes it all clear, and we don't follow the story so much as get dragged along behind it. I saw it with an audience that seemed wrapped up in an unusual way: It was very, very interested.
    I'll give it a 4.

    • MUST WATCH
    Fun Watch
    Do you wanna partner
I do if its like sir Govinda.
No one is even closer to him when its come to stupid comedy. He the father of all dancers and comedians for. He can do anything. He has given hits in all genres.
Even after a lapse of years, he was not rustic. He was still a man with same sense of humour and ideas moves. He was the apple of the eye.
Partner's success was not a Salman Khan caused one but Govinda's. He was praised a lot for his performance in Partner.
His character of Bhaskar is still a very famous pick. I've seen it 20 times and i can watch it more.
Partner had a typical bollywood story. Salman playing love guru as prem bhai and Govinda playing Bhaskar, a very shy out bold in character who loves his boss(Katrina kaif) but haven't got enough guts to propose her. He meet Prem, the love guru and finally finds his lady love with his aid. Meanwhile, Salman also fells in love with Lara Dutta( as ). How it happens, you'll have to watch it.
David Dhawan and Govinda duo's comeback couldn't have been better.
Story was not at all innovative. Acting part was good. Songs also nice and popular. Humour incredible. Sript average, dialogues humorous. Overall Partner is a fun watch.
    I'll give it a 3.5

Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed The Lone Ranger
    • SLOW PACED
    Could've been better
Lone Ranger was not a great watch but a average movie. It shows how the evil in the society can make a silent educated man into a ranger of West who fights against everyone who trouble against the common people of west. Armie Hammer playing John Reid is the lone ranger. He is aided by a Native American, played by Johnny Depp, who is himself a victim of being cheated.
The movie has got a cold plot with an exciting story. The script is weak and dialogues average. Scenery matches perfectly with a cowboy's Wild West background. Johnny, Armie, Armie Hammer(as Butch Cavendish), Tom Wilkinsonas (as Cole), Ruth Wilsonas (as Rebecca Reid)and Helena Bonham (as Carteras Red Harrington) all were great when it comes to acting. But only acting is not enough for a movie, its not a theater.
Weak points were the basics. Movie moved slow. Depp tried to add a bit humour with his actions but that was not enough to lift the movie.
Lone Ranger was a gigantic plot, with poor script, slow story, good actors and bad commitment.
Director, Gore Verbinski is to be blamed for the movie's failure.
Even with all it flaws Lone Ranger is still a fun onetime popcorn movie.
    I'll give it a 3.

    • MUST WATCH
    Old legends in Modern World
Benedict Cumberbatch, the only name on every lip. I've seen so many crime shows and movies but nothing incredible like this. He's perfect as Sherlock.
His acting, his sense of humour, his seriousness, his cleverness, his bravery, his intelligence all in all his brain wola wola. If someone speaks to me of Sherlock Benedict is the picture for me.
    Season 4 come soon!!
    I'm waiting
It deserves no less but a 5.

    Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed Queen
    • MUST WATCH
    Watch boyss and learn girls
    WOW WOW WOW.
No matter how good i rate it, it'll be less. I love Kangana. She stuns me every time. Her acting, her looks and her innocence, no words. I'm in love with her. In Queen she looked to me like the girl next door.
Queen reflects the true reality of our Indian society, where girls are treated like a use and throw thing. A boy can't be wrong but a woman is always wrong.
Its the story of a very pretty and innocent punjabi lady Rani, the protagonist.
Just before the day of her marriage her feonsay(Rajkumar Rao as Vijay) decides not to marry her, the reason : she doesn't suits his status. Rani couldn't believe him. His reason was so illogical. She brokes down. Her family shatters. She starts thinking about her honeymoon, her already decided trip to Paris. She decides go alone to comfort herself. And here actual journey begins, her solo honeymoon.
Her trip opens her. She becomes fashionable. She meets new people, makes new friends and yes experiences her life's first kiss, 'mouth to mouth one'. ;)
Further, you'll have to watch the movie ;) .
Queen is a perfect package for me. A movie of a hollywood level. Dialogues, music, story, script all awesome. Vikas Bahl did a really impressive job as a director and writer. Locations were really beautiful. Cast very cleverly chosen. The foreign actors, Mish Boyko(Olexander) and Jeffrey Chee Eng Ho(Taka) did played realy a significant part. Rajkumar Rao is a good actor but there was not much for him to di in the movie.
Overall a movie like Queen should always be praised. As such movies have capability of leaving a mark on audience's heart and bring a social change.
    I'll give it 4.5

Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed Life of Pi
    • MUST WATCH
    Speechless
No words can expain how unimaginable, incredible and touching this movie was. For me one of the best movie of the decade. People praise it for its graphics, animation, technology used but what they don't see is the love, the pain, the struggle, the never give up motto that it portrays.
Life of Pie is an adaptation of Yann Martel's award winning novel. From its opening scene of animals and birds strutting and preening themselves in a sunlit zoo to the final credits of fish and nautical objects shimmering beneath the sea, the movie had a sense of the mysterious, the magical.
Director Ang Lee, a very popular and several time awarded Taiwan's legend filmmaker, took the novel to its new heights. Every once in a long while, the right director comes across the right project at just the right moment, and things so often discordant fall into perfect harmony. The scenes, dialogues, narration, poetry have been put up and written so nicely and even a expert cannot find even a flaw. The magic and questions that movie puts up remains unsolved throughout. And this is the specialty of the movie.
Undoubtedly, the graphics, vfx and animation were the best part. Creating something fake that looks so real and heart touching can't be denied to be said as a masterpiece. Creating a movie on this novel was itself a battle, and making it look so real was miraculous.
Now lets come to acting. Movie was dominated by Indian actors -
Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Suraj Sharma, Adil Hussain. Suraj Sharma was the apple of the eye. His acting moved everyone. His command, his accent(even after being an Indian), his narration all made him look like a professional actor with an experience of alteast 10 years. A student of St. Stephen College, New Delhi, Suraj Sharma was shortlisted in a random audition. Who could have imagined a movie like this will make us witness such a great tallent.
A movie like this is not made everyday. A chef's best dish is a result of perfect ingredients, right flame, right pot and a right chef too. Same was the Life of Pie. All people who worked in and for the movie were the one required. They met each other at the right time and result : A Masterpiece.
    I'll give it a 5.

Thus movie may not be worth being called as thet best horror movie. But definitely not that bad too. I watched it at night and i did got nightmares. The story though was not that good but camera work and sudden horror shocks were really good.
    Worst part acting.
    Best part nothing.
    Everything other average.
    I'll still rate it a 3.5

    Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed Sleepy Hollow
    • MUST WATCH
May not be horror but entertaining
    Oh My God
Is it a horror movie or a comedy movie or horror, no comedy, how it can be its a horror then, finally.
This movie, so confusing. Movie was designed as a horror one but what a acting by Johnny Depp. His fearful expressions, his mocking bold attire and his every time fainting. No one can match him. This was a one man show, literally.
Story, rather calling it fearful i'll call it comedy, see i'm still confused. But suspense in the movie was great. And Depp's turning into a fearless fighter from a fearful coward, adds again a bit of mockery.
The setup and locations of the movie were great, they were one of the few features of the movie that were a bit haunting.
Dialogues were so amazing. Depp's dialogues especially. The dialogues reflects the state of Depp's character, a lawyer send to Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery behind people getting awfully murdered. The person residents of sleepy hollow suspected was a man without head on a horse. For further story refer the movie. I don't want to break the suspense. ;)
Script was decent, screenplay great(keeping in mind movie was made in 1999). Johny's acting great as i already stated. Cristina Ricci, Miranda, Casper, etc all other actors seems invisible since Depp was the real hero. Though everyone did a pretty good job. This was one the movie that brought Depp into Hollywood limelight.
Though it was not as fearful, but i'll still rate it high cause it was really entertaining. Therefore, this movie deserves a 3.5

    Shubham Baunthiyal reviewed Haunted
    • SLOW PACED
    Could've been better
Haunted . I never expected a movie of this potential made in India. Though there were some glitches in the movie still as a package it was a great watch.
Strory was nice but illogical and impractical, as they added a time traveling part in it. It was the first 3D movie to be displayed in multiplexes in India. I too watched it in 3D and i swear i was a bit scared, and my being a bit scared means movie was worth being called Haunted.
Tia Bajpai had a small screen experience and was really impressive as Meera. The story revolves around her being raped by her piano teacher, Proff. Iyer(Arif Zakaria) and her committing suicide. A person, Rehan(Mahaakshay Chakraborty)takes interest in her story when he purchases Meera's house 100 years later, feeling connected to the girl encountering her ghost screem at night. To know more and save her he dwells back into time, and fells in love with Meera in the past. For more refer the movie. ;)
The movie is landscaped in the beautiful hills of Ooty. Hill scenery adds to the horror. Dialogues were average, script slow which makes movie slow and boring, story ok, cast average but screenplay was very impressive.
Acting was not at its par. Even the protagonists didn't played their characters as good as they should have. Mahaakshay's performance was really not impressive. He was a new watch and expectations were high from him but he couldn't stand upto the expectations.
Vikram Bhatt as usual was great as a director. He was working with newcomers and adapted accordingly. He was not at fault for movie's weak points.
Lets see what great critics had said -
Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave it three and a half stars and concluded that "Haunted is for today's movie savvy audience. It succeeds in keeping you tense and edgy, as a true poltergeist/horror flick should. There are scenes and situations aplenty to shock and astound the viewer coupled with the 3D effects, the prosthetics, the background score, an absorbing screenplay and deft handling of the subject material."
Anupama Chopra of NDTV Movies awarded the film one and a half stars describing it as "an absolutely ridiculous horror movie that works better as comedy, unintentional of course."
It was good watch for. Good and experienced actors could have have raised the level. Newcomers couldn't be blamed. They did what was asked and with their full potential.
I'll finish it with 3 stars.
