Ram, the local village Romeo, is a colorful, charming yet dramatic vagabond whereas Leela is an unbridled and passionate village Juliet. Excellent Bollywood rendition of Romeo and Juliet. There are some twists to the story, but I also loved how the director played off what is very familiar in the story. Instead of a masked ball, the lovers meet at a Holi festival where everyone is doused with colored powder. Leela is no naive young girl. I absolute love that she gives Ram the first kiss, and he is just poleaxed by her. Leela's mother is the warlord of their clan, and Ram's father the other. Later in the story Ram and Leela must take over the reins of their fighting families. There are modern touches like the use of guns AND swords, as well as amusing uses of cell phones.
